On January 13 I had the pleasure of speaking to a group of 40 or so business management majors at Konan University Hirao School of Management in Japan about the power of personal branding.
We started the presentation with small groups coming up with an answer to the question “What is a brand?” This was followed with each group discussing their favorite brands by sharing up to 3 words or phrases to describe why they like that brand. From here we jumped into what is personal branding, why is it important in today’s economy in Japan, and how to differentiate yourself in a culture where “fitting-in” is the norm. I closed with 7 practical action items they could use to immediately to start building their personal brands.about the Power of Personal Branding.
