Vlogathon Day 22: Discovering Your Why – The First Step to Building a Personal Brand

Vlogathon Day 22: September 22nd – Jean-Marc Dedeyne

Jean-Marc Dedeyne is my guest for Day 22 of the Personal Branding Vlogathon. I have tremendous respect for Jean-Marc because his company, U in the USA, is enabling international students to achieve their career goals in the USA by defining and demonstrating their unique business values to the right decision makers. Like me, Jean-Marc has been inspired by Simon Sinek and his idea that we all must start with WHY. In other words, it is our WHY that drives us and ultimately inspires those around us. In his video below, Jean-Marc starts by asking a critical question – “Do you like your job or do you love your job?” He reminds us to find our WHY because at the end of the day people don’t buy what we do – they buy WHY we do it. Learn his 3-step process to discover your why!

Enjoy Jean-Marc’s video and let us know what you think by commenting below. [Read more...]

Vlogathon Day 7: Creating Your Reality Through Personal Branding

Vlogathon Day 7:  September 7th – Jeff Rock

Week 1 of the 30-day Personal Branding Vlogathon closes with an awesome video message from my friend Jeff Rock. While I have never met Jeff in person, the connection we have made via social media and our mutual background as Reach Certified Personal Branding Strategists almost makes me feel as if we have known each other for years! Like others, Jeff has wanted to jump on the ‘video brand-wagon’ for some time and I was happy he saw this Vlogathon as the platform to make his video debut. Jeff runs Swiftriver Coaching where he combines personal branding with energy leadership, emotional intelligence, and narrative development. In his video below he shares how your reality – your authentic, genuine self – is the foundation of your personal brand. Make sure to visit his site to download his FREE eBook – ‘Build Your Brand by Telling Your Story’.

Enjoy Jeff’s video and stay tuned for his special guests at 3:39! [Read more...]

Can the Lance Armstrong Brand Live Strong?

Is the Lance Armstrong brand dead? Can Lance’s personal brand still live strong?

These questions have been on my mind since Lance announced to the world on 8/23 that he would no longer fight the doping allegations by USADA, thereby ending his battle and his legacy. In the court of public opinion his move has been considered a tacit admission of guilt, although he has not been legally charged with doping, lying, or fraud.

I have spent every day since then reading a lot about Lance’s case with opinions running the gamut from unwavering support for his decision to applause for a “cheater” finally being dethroned.

As an avid cyclist and admirer of Lance since his 1999 comeback after battling cancer, I felt emptiness, sadness, appreciation, and admiration. Empty and sad that I was watching my hero’s brand and image collapse before my eyes. Yet at the same time my admiration and appreciation for Lance remained stronger than ever. I found myself still in Lance’s corner and wanting to give the proverbial middle finger to USADA for their witch-hunt. [Read more...]

Is it Only Passion that Drives Your Personal Brand?

I have always considered passion to be the main driver for my work and my mission to pioneer a personal branding culture shift in Japan.

We always hear it is our passion that enables us to ride the roller coaster called “entrepreneurship.” But is it only passion that pushes us forward, or is there something else at play? We can be passionate, but also casually sit back and hope things will change. Our passion might get us out of bed in the morning, but is it what keeps us going throughout the day?

So I decided to look around for some insight on what it is that keeps us going and all signs seem to point to one word: Tenacity!  Without tenacity all the passion, intelligence, motivation, and desire to kick serious butt will just be lip service.  Here is what others have said about tenacity.
